Attack

Last Thursday, an angry mob of anarchic protesters surrounded and attacked the car carrying Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, and his wife, Camilla. The car was kicked, daubed with paint-bombs, and even had its windows smashed. One protester reached through an open window and jabbed Camilla in the ribs with a stick, while others chanted, “Off with their heads, off with their heads!” (Video report here).

Police and royal security eventually managed to clear a path through the crowds and the couple were whisked to safety. Although it was all over in a matter of minutes, the Prince and Camilla were clearly shaken by this rare exposure to dangerous violence. A security blunder has been blamed for officers directing their car down a busy London street and straight into the path of the mob. The police have apologized, the government has announced an official inquiry, and the media are in a feeding frenzy.

But something far worse happened 2,000 years ago?

Yesterday an angry mob of anarchic protesters surrounded and attacked Jesus Christ, the Galilean who some say is the future King of Israel. He himself has made even larger claims. The violent outburst was the culmination of years of threats, skirmishes and scuffles at the hands of various critics and opponents. Although the increasingly ferocious attack left the alleged king bruised and bloodied, latest reports indicate that he remains unbowed and unbroken. Some witnesses say that the crowd have been chanting, “Crucify him, crucify him!”

The religious police and Roman security have seemingly withdrawn all protections, not only abandoning him to the mob but joining forces with them. Although the situation is still in flux, the Galilean is apparently maintaining the characteristic composure and confidence he has learned through many previous experiences of being defenseless before his enemies. And, despite death now staring him in the face, he is still maintaining his claim to be a King whose Kingdom is coming.

The police are refusing to answer questions, the government has washed its hands of the matter, and no other media outlets are reporting the story. If there are any further developments, we will be the first to let you know.
