A couple of weeks ago a friend asked me to do some Puritan Pods on how to preach Christ from Old Testament passages that were not obviously Christ-centered. So, bravely rising to the challenge, here are a few minutes of my thoughts on how to preach Christ from 2 Chronicles 7v14 :
If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
I don’t usually write out a full manuscript, but here’s what you might call a 75% manuscript (the main substance of my sermon) and here is my summary note, that I re-read a few times just before preaching.

I appreciate the illumination. Just a few quick questions. In 2 Chronicles 7:12 it says the LORD appeared to Solomon by night; Is this a Christophony (sp) or a Theophony?
Wouldn”t verse 16 be a promise by Christ to the Church of Christ instead of an earthly building?
Thanks!
That’s a good point Peter. I believe every manifestation of God in the OT was a manifestation of the Son of God (John 1:18).
Good morning David, I just finished watching the God Pod on God’s Face and I have to say that I had not heard that exposition of this “common” verse. I say that “common” tongue in cheek – nothing common about it. I downloaded both the 75% sermon and your summary sheet. I was trying to figure out what the letters mean to the left of your notes on the summary sheet.
Grace and Peace, Tom
Tom: These are the letters that help me remember the key word in each sentence of the outline. I don’t usually use notes when I preach. Instead I have the main points fairly clear in my mind. The letters help me with this.
