    Thanks for the links regarding leaving a child at college. We just experienced this for the first time and it is a “strange grief.”

    Thanks for the link to the father’s experience. My dear husband is very stoic about such things, but I know that it is definitely affecting him, too. My son informs me that I may be weepy for 20 minutes, and then I may have “celebratory remodelling” of his bedroom.

    I’m past the ‘leaving for college’ stage but tell friends who complain, that they should be grateful if they are on the same continent. I have one in South America and one in Kenya. My ‘baby’ who sometimes seems more mature than I am, tells me, ” Mom ,you should be so thankful for email and Skype. Missionaries weren’t able to keep in touch with their families regularly in the past.” We are indeed blessed with the technology we have these days.
