    David, unfortunately ‘Jesus on Every Page’ looks like the ‘teaching of contempt’ which regards the Hebrew Scriptures as useful only for ‘seeing Christ’ in them. That leads to the Christian view that the Jews didn’t ‘get it’, that Christ was revealed in their own scriptures. That has been held against the Jews by Christians for millennia, with devastating consequences for Jewish life and well-being. I thought that in this day and age this Christian hi-jacking of the Hebrew scriptures was carefully avoided by informed Christian teachers, and that the Hebrew scriptures were being read for their own witness to the Jewish experience of God. For the sake of good relationships with the Jewish people, please consider how you deliver your message. I am a Christian Minister officially involved in my church in trying to improve Christian-Jewish relationships and to talk with them about the riches to be found in the Hebrew Bible. They are the Bible OF Jesus, not the Bible ABOUT Jesus. The NT writers naturally use the Hebrew scriptures to make their points, after all they were the only scriptures available to them. That does not mean the Hebrew scriptures were written as actual pointers to Jesus as the Christ. History has shown that this is a dangerous way to read them.

      I’d beg to differ on whether the celebration of the Old Testament as pointing to the coming Messiah is teaching of contempt. If anything it should push the desire of Christians who too easily dismiss the Old Testament as wholly Jewish and therefore irrelevant to Christianity except as a history lesson. But there is no question that the OT DOES point to Christ as Messiah and many Jews at the time certainly saw this as they became the first Christians. The entire OT/NT is God’s story and that includes Jewish history and Christian history and they are one… not two and they are made one through the revelation of Messiah and his coming in Jesus Christ.

      Certainly some have used that concept to rile anti-semitism, but this is a problem with the people using it… not the teaching itself.

      Perhaps give the book a read before you assume too much.

      For some reason I’m drawn to John 3, particularly verse 10, when Jesus asks Nicodemus “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?” It seems that he expects Nicodemus to understand how salvation works by virtue of his position knowing the Hebrew scriptures, and then by expounding upon that he draws Nicodemus to the conclusion that those scriptures do indeed speak of the Messiah (himself). I am certainly interested in what this book by Dr. Murray has to say that may help us understand that from whatever perspective he chooses to take, but I’ll read it first before I pass judgement.

      So then, are you, as a ‘Christian Minister’ in your church serving in a capacity of authority and teaching over the men of your church (as your post implies)?

      If so, a very great many Christians would consider you to be the one who is “hi-jacking” the scriptures for their own wrong purposes.

      Luke 6:41-43 “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?(42)”Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye. (43)”For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit.

      (If indeed there even is a speck within David’s eye, since you have not bothered to do due diligence before accusing him of falsely teaching others.)

    The OT is the Scriptures for the Jews of their time…The Hebrew nation -not knowing in detail -who or what is the Messiah…can be excused in their agnosticism wrt the Messiah. But Jews after the Jesus of history…when they still profess indifference wrt the Messiah are as guilty as Gentiles who does not believe Him. The Scriptures are clear…even Angels says so…

    Ray, you’re absolutely correct.

    Lorraine, how can you, as a professing Christian, deny that Jesus is present in the Old Testament? The New Testament tells us that Jesus was the prophesied Messiah, but you deny those Scriptures as well! What “riches” can you share with the Jewish people from the Hebrew Bible once you’ve removed Jesus?

    We can’t compromise the Bible’s teachings to please people. Well, you can if you want, but if you continue to deny Jesus, He will also deny you (Mt. 10:33).

    When I read verses like these, I can’t think help but believe that the whole Old Testament was prepared to point the way to God’s Son and Salvation for the world:

    “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life. (John 5:39, 40 NLT)

    Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. (Luke 24:44, 45 NLT)

    These are just a few. Didn’t want to overstate it…

        Daddy Murray….God bless you so much for the book you wrote. I agree with you that the bible is all about JESUS CHRIST the Son of God, The Word of God, The GOD in Flesh, The Great Emmanuel. Please do not mind any criticism about this book and the facts at at all. I am even reading the book when I have not bought it.I am enjoying the book already..please how much is a copy. I want it badly….I need to read it and let the Muslim friends see the point that JESUS IS GOD…..They – the muslims like the Old Testament so let me show then The Messiah in it to them.
