I don’t tend to post much about my family on the blog but today I have to make an exception because yesterday we had the enormous privilege of attending my son’s graduation from Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego. To top it all off, Allan also became a US citizen during a deeply moving naturalization ceremony (first photo). The rest of us hope to follow suit by the end of the year – as citizens, not Marines! Here’s a video and a few photos to give you a flavor of one of the greatest days of our lives.

Allan’s in the middle with the glasses.

And here’s the whole gang, left to right: Joni (14), Shona (?), Allan (20), me (49), Scott (2), Angus (18), and Amy (12).

Congratulations!! And thank you, Allan, for your commitment and very hard work to become a soldier. It is not taken for granted. Praying for your continued safety, both physically and spiritually. (I bet that Starbucks Coffee tasted wonderful after months of Boot camp chow!) Congrats to all the family!! :)

We anticipated, a few years ago, a similar graduation from Marine OCS. Providence intervened, so one of our sons did not end up a Marine officer and aviator as he’d thought God’s call was.

May God bless Allan and make him a Marine (Hollywood!) who is mighty for Jesus.

Congratulations! My dad graduated Marines at that same camp! You should be very proud!

How much weight did he lose during boot camp?

    This is awesome.

Congratulations!! How exciting for the entire family and what an accomplishment for Allan. I imagine it was difficult for Shona to think of her boy going through tough stuff at boot camp. For those of us born here, those who take it for granted to be American, it’s pretty cool to think of a family choosing to be citizens. It’s a good reminder of how much there is in this nation to appreciate. Welcome, welcome, welcome!
