Yes, I do believe there was significance in the cultic practices. (1) As God commanded them (just as he has commanded the Lord’s Supper), to neglect them would have brought God’s punishment. (2) As the sacrifices were perhaps God’s primary means of creating and sustaining faith in His OT people, neglect of them would have resulted in far fewer believing.

Could you do a follow up post on the actual significance of the animal sacrifices that the Israelites had to practice.If the rituals, sacrifices & offerings only ever pointed to Jesus, was there actually any significance in that cultic practices? The OT Jews were saved by faith – anyone who has ever been saved is only saved by faith – If they hadn’t carried out the sacrifices would it have mattered practically in terms of their salvation?
