As I am reading this, I feel that The Lord has directed me to this post. My family left our congregation that we had grown up in to another congregation and denomination. This happened a year ago, and tonight we had some family visiting who just informed us that some of their family members will not join us for our annual family reunion, because they do not want to have any fellowship with us because we have left the denomination. But again I was reminded, that when The Lord directs, we must follow. It is not our own wishes and needs that must be foremost, but to be obediant to His commands, and follow our Great Shepherd, where ever He may lead.

Sigh... Many of us who were sad four years ago are still sad today. It doesn't mean for a minute we think you were wrong in your decision to go - far from it. But partings in this world always bring sadness. Although we are thankful for how 'small' the world has become because of internet and ease of communication, we can't but look forward to the day when there will be no more separation.Blessings, Anne

Dear Dr Murray, thank you for sharing this. Stornoway is indeed a great place, I have only spent a week there and had a brief time looking around Lewis, but I am keen to return sometime!

Thanks for this Pastor. I have watched a lot of Pastors change for various reasons. Two of the most influential men in my life were Pastors of their original congregations for their whole time in the ministry. They both have had a world wide influence and much fruit because of their local assemblies. So it is always pretty hard for me to understand a calling away from ones congregation. This helps me understand. At the same time I have seen Pastors tempted to leave their posts as Undershepherds when they shouldn't leave. And I sense that that could be a damage to both the Pastor and the congregation. May God use this as good guidance. Also may Pastors see that staying in their congregations isn't necessarily burying their talent. Dr. Blackwood taught Church History for years from his own Church and those classes were credited. I was fortunate to get to attend the first class he did in 87 I believe. My oldest son and I got to attend the last class he will probably ever do in 2010. That is a whole generation he taught Church History to. Wow, time flies.
