Since God causes all things to come to pass, isn't looking back in regret on our past a way of saying, "God, you didn't get that quite right"? As one who was not converted until age 42, I have had plenty to regret and frankly, I spent decades doing so. But now, praise God, by his grace my past is past and when regret sneaks in (and it does from time to time) I remember that God is sovereign and that all His ways, past and present, are not merely best, they are perfect, regardless they might appear to be. So, if Lit! is helpful use it, but let the past be the past as far as regret is concerned. Like Ryan, I also appreciated the autobiographical aspect of your review.

What a great review, David! Thanks for revealing a bit about yourself, a bit about the book, and why this book had an impact on you. The best sort of review!

Try "bookworm"!

This hits me right between the eyes. I have so many books on my shelf that I've started and never finished, books that I'm dying to read and never cracked, and a LONG list of books I'd love to hear. Sometimes I feel like a book collector rather than a reader, I collect them to feel good about owning them while never enjoying the riches within. I recently listened to "The Place of a Disciplined Reading Program in a Fruitful Man of God", a message delivered by Albert Martin to ministers in training - very convicting!

Thanks for the encouraging post!
