Good question, Flora. Very sorry to read about David's experience. I agree that the church is too quick to retire people, when extended leaves of absence would be a much more suitable and charitable response. As you say so beautifully, the Lord is faithful, but no it does not excuse bad decisions by His servants. Wives certainly end up in the "Wrecker's Yard" too, sometimes before their husbands! You're right about the need to address this from a wife's perspective. I'll definitely give that some thought.

Where do the wives fit in, David? When my husband felt he had to retire at age 62 after illness, problems in the church and depression, my concern that he should have a 'leave of absence' rather than retire, was ignored. Wives know their husbands better than anyone and yet their input is often treated with contempt. In our case, we lost our home, income, church and friends because we were advised that it was best to "distance ourselves". It was especially hard on our children. The Lord has been faithful. We have been upheld, the Lord has made provision and my husband is healthy and being used by the Lord twenty years later but it doesn't excuse those ministers and elders who lack insight and compassion.
