[...] 10 Foolish Obstacles to the Foolishness of Preaching God chose the foolishness of Gospel preaching to save them that believe (1 Cor. 1:21). The Gospel message is foolishness to the world. But so is the Gospel medium – preaching. Who in their right mind would choose a regular 30-45 minute monologue from one sinful man to many sinful hearers to communicate the most important message in the world? God would and did.
Your obstacles are legit, no doubt. But what boggles my mind is that the average preacher, certainly aware of these obstacles, continues to go on about preaching in a substantively deficient way.

Having served on two pastor search committees (interim and then his replacement), I heard far too many sermons whose content was too full of illustrations, personal pronouns, application, study bible note quotes, opinions, politics, etc., and not God's word.

It seems the biggest obstacle of all is that too many pastors are so concerned with "pastoring" from the pulpit that they neglect the preaching of God's word from the pulpit.
