I appreciate this article. I will actually be referencing it in a term paper for my Life Science class. The paper is my apologetic in regards to the evolution vs. creation debate. It is refreshing to find an intelligent dissenter among the atheist community. It is also saddening to read about Nagel’s poor reception of ‘common sense’.

I dunno, it seems about as logical as, “We know a little about the universe, therefore some theories must be completely wrong and a ‘god’ does not exist.”

When you de-emphasize the importance of the missing details for evolutionary theory and human origins, shouldn’t you equally de-emphasize the importance of what you see as missing details for the other side of the argument?

He illustrates very well the problem with Empiricism as a philosophy. Rationalism is not better. Only Christian Dogmatism can account for our worldview, and the Bible (with all its implications and applications necessarily deduced) is the only truth in which we can trust.

I think some of Nagel's arguments are on the right track. Ultimately, I think one day we will discover that God IS consciousness, and that we are all but tiny, limited versions of that great consciousness that he is. God said I AM THAT I AM. This simply implies existence, which is essentially what consciousness provides. When we rediscover God through correct Biblical interpretation I believe the conscious experience will be the center. In the meantime, I hope Nagel doesn't give in to the criticism.
