Did you ever try Remember the Milk? I'm wondering how the featureset compares to wunderlist? (Like you, I've tried a number of systems, and don't want to switch my workflow again if I can avoid it)

I loved the richness of tagging/locations/date searches/saved searches to allow infinite customizability as I refined and developed my productivity skills. (I used it almost daily for ~6 years). Syncing with phones has quirky bugs though, and its put me in the market for something else. (I even paid for Pro, and that did not fix my sync issues.)

I'd love to know if Wunderlist supports that flexibility, or if it takes a more standardized "put everything in a project and go from there" approach? Thankyou!

Check out Workflowy as well. It is a browser-based outliner. Just started using it, but already it has been a significant organizer. It's simple design makes it very easy to use. You can even us it as a group project tool, sharing and collaborating on lists with others.

There is both a limited free account and a premium account. If you want to check it out, here's an invite link that gets you 2x more free space: https://workflowy.com/invite/2580b308.emlx
