However if he were in fact counseled or coached to explain why he didn’t mean to do harm (lie), it was bad advice because he’s not really working now. If he would come out and be honest and be able to give a short, direct explanation (one in which his mother would easily understand), he might be gainfully employed now, just not with CBS.

Several things that Williams said, I just thought “what does that even mean?”. It was as if he had been told in order to be allowed back on the news, that he had to show remorse and explain what he had done, but he would also have to avoid saying he lied, because people wouldn’t stand for him doing the news if he actually said that he had lied.

That does not excuse him. His problems came, as he put it, from ego. I suspect that he thinks he’d be lying now if he said flat-out that he lied on the newscast.
