I agree with a lot of what they have to say, but there’s a lot I don’t, and they are without a doubt, a “cult”, so how do I tell them ?

As you say, your situation is unusual and not really comparable to the situation I was addressing in this article. As for advice, difficult to say without knowing more details. It sounds as if turning things around is unlikely. I’d try to find a faithful local church, take some time to build confidence in Christians again, and rebuild from there. Try to avoid Psalm 116:11 attitude by keeping your focus on Christ not Christians.
