I do not equate Israel with the USA. Here’s a brief summary of my hermeneutical approach to texts like this. It’s pretty standard Reformed fare:

1. Israel were the Kingdom of God in the OT.

2. The church is the Kingdom of God in the NT (called the same names as OT Israel, etc)

3. Therefore texts like this call God’s people to repent in both the OT and NT.

4. In the Old Covenant, such widespread repentance would result in widespread national blessing.

5. In the New Covenant, such widespread repentance would result in God’s blessing upon individuals and the church, and therefore upon any nation that has such a repentant people.

As I say, pretty basic stuff. Certainly nothing to repent of for me here. Maybe for you?
