So very very true. There are definitely signs, and if the pastor has surrounded himself with 'yes' men, they were too loyal or afraid to speak up. There should be conferences for pastors to attend in order to educate them on their responsibilities as leaders of the church, appropriate boundaries, the power imbalance between pastors and laity, and the need for accountability OUTSIDE of the elders/deacons in the church. Most people won't question the pastor. I do remember one case in which a deacon was brave enough to confront - when Jack Schaap at FBC Hammond, Indiana was caught having an affair with a 16 yr old and the evidence was discovered on his phone. I applaud that deacon for speaking up.

Hmmm? “When pastors fall...”

I’ve seen the damage..
And, Repairing the wreckage is important...

But - What about prevention?

Didn’t Paul, and most likely Jesus...
Give some very tough qualifications for elder/overseer?

How many folks even know the qualifications?
And then check out their elder/overseers?
To see if their elder/overseers Qualify?

I’ve noticed, the congregation, and most who call themselves “pastor/elder/overseer” tend to“Ignore,” and “Twist,” the 17+, very tough Qualifications in 1 Tim 3:1-7, and Titus 1:5-8.

So they can get “Hired.”

So they can maintain their “Titles,” and “Positions,” pastor/leader/reverend, that today come with Power, Profit, and Prestige.

The Bible talks about elder/overseers.
And Qualifications for elder/overseers.
Can you have one without the other?

And, if a pastor/elder/overseer does NOT Qualify???

Shouldn’t they remove themselves?
And be a good example to the Flock?

What about prevention?

What about the 'other woman'? Is she left out in the cold to be
ostracized and labeled a 'Jezebel'? There is a MAJOR misunderstanding
of pastoral misconduct. When a pastor breaks his sacred trust &
enters into a relationship with another woman in his congregation, it is
ABUSE. It is abuse of power, not unlike a therapist/client,
teacher/student, doctor/patient relationship, where the responsibility
for maintaining proper boundaries is on the shoulders of the one in
power. It is not an affair - it is abuse and should be treated as such.
Multiple states even consider it a crime, and the pastor and/or church
can be sued for pastoral abuse. If more pastors knew the full
implications of their actions, I'm sure they would give 2nd thought
before entering into an abusive relationship with a congregant. Let's
call it what it is and minister accordingly. Don't give special
preference to the wife, children & congregation at large while
ignoring the victim of the pastor. And a pastor that engages in such
conduct is no longer fit to lead.
