Time budget to avoid burnout
In his excellent 40-page booklet on Burnout, Brad Hambrick devotes a number of pages to creating a “Time Budget.”
His basic point is that God has given us all a limited budget of time, 168 hours a week, to be exact. “This means that even if there are 200 hours worth of excellent things to be accomplished in a week, we can have assurance that at least 32 hours of our agenda is outside the will of God for our life.”
I’d highly recommend getting the booklet for the details of how to create and use a time-budget, but his broad budget categories are:
50 hours: Sleep
50 hours: Work
17 hours: Marriage and family (a tithe of our time)
51 hours: Rest of life (varying proportions of maintenance, recreation, church and community service)Challenging. Helpful. And probably about right.
