Watch God’s Technology Film for Free

A friend and I made this film a few years ago and released it on DVD. The DVDs sold out a couple of years ago and, as not many people are watching DVDs now, it’s not worth manufacturing any more. So, I thought I might as well make it available to stream for free.

Four years on I’d update a few areas (and the style!) but I think there’s still helpful material here for families, schools, and churches that want to train their children to use God’s good gift of technology in a way that is glorifying to God. Here’s a free study guide, and here’s the blurb:

The personal computer and the Internet have transformed the way we and our children study, play, socialize, shop, learn, and even apply for jobs. If you are a parent, teacher, or pastor, you probably feel overwhelmed by the size and speed of the changes. There are many wonderful new opportunities, but also many dangers.

God’s Technology presents a Christian response to the digital revolution. After laying the foundation of four biblical principles, I make the case for disciplined discernment in our use of technology, propose a practical seven-step training program to develop disciplined discernment in our children, and conclude by showing how to apply these seven steps to Facebook use.

God’s Technology at Ligonier

A few weeks ago, the HeadHeartHand team had a few days in Florida, and were privileged to meet up with our dear friends and brothers at Ligonier – Burk Parsons, Chris Larson, John Duncan, John Cobb, Chris Donato, and a few others too. What an encouraging and enjoyable time we had there.

One of the highlights for me was getting a chance to sit down with Chris Larson and discuss our shared interest in how Christians can use technology for God’s glory. The conversation, which centered around the God’s Technology DVD, was filmed and can be viewed on the Ligonier website. Or you can watch it below. You can buy the DVD via Ligonier’s store here.

God’s Technology for young people

Here are the visuals of the presentation I made at the Young & Reformed Conference on Saturday. Some of it will not make much sense without the audio (and some of the audio won’t make much sense without the visuals), but I think the general idea is clear. It was the first time I used Prezi software in public. Press the play button, give it some time to load (20-30 secs), and then have a spin through it using the navigation arrows. And look out for the surprise at the very end. There are a couple of 2 minute video clips in the presentation.

The topic was also challenging. I’ve spoken to quite a few parents’ groups about training children and young people to use Technology for God’s glory, and produced a DVD to help parents in that. But this address had to take a different tack as it was mainly teenagers and early twenties in the audience. I had three main points:

1. God loves technology
2. The devil loves technology
3. How we should love technology

7 Steps to Using Technology for God’s Glory

No parent wants to give his or her child unfettered access to the Internet. But neither is it realistic or wise to forbid any access whatsoever. How then do we plot a course that avoids these two extremes and yet maximizes their moral and spiritual safety? In my recent article for Christianity.com, I outlined 7 Steps to Using Technology for God’s Glory.

  1. Educate
  2. Fence
  3. Mentor
  4. Supervise
  5. Review
  6. Trust
  7. Model
