Here are SermonAudio links to the first two lectures in my Old Testament Introduction course.

Lecture 1. Pentateuch Overview: Covenant People

Lecture 2. Genesis Overview: Creation of a Covenant People

And if you’re really keen, here are the skeleton notes that I give to the students and ask them to fill out as we go along.

Lecture 1. Pentateuch Overview: Covenant People (pdf)

Lecture 2. Genesis Overview: Creation of a Covenant People (pdf)

And if you want to keep track of where we’re going with the lectures in the coming weeks, here’s the Course Schedule (pdf).

hello Dr Murray. I meant to tell you that in our OT intro courses we have to outline every book in the OT. That has been a tremendous help.

The rules are simply that it needs to be advanced enough to be multiple pages. They can be more theologically-based or thematic-based. Creativity is not an issue – in fact we are encouraged to outline in such a way that we will use these outlines later, whether teaching or preaching through the book, etc. I outlined how Christ is displayed in every chapter of each book. I only had to take Pentateuch, but I hope to do this with the rest of the OT.

    Thanks for the foundation!

Shawn, I’m giving the students the option of instead of exams and papers, they prepare an OT Intro course for their future congregations. You gave me the seed thought for this.
